APW - Elgin, B.W. Raymond, World War II era military U.S. Army Air Corps Type A-13 "Master Navigation Watch," Grade 581, 22J, 16S, chrome-plated base metal OF original Elgin case with contract markings to rear, black metal 24-hour "GCT" (Greenwich Civil Time) dial, SW-hack-set with sweep-seconds, fully capped lever escapement, "U.S. Army A.C." marked mvt, striped pattern gilt damascene, s#40470533. This movement is marked "21 Jewels" but in fact has 22 jewels due to the jeweled sweep-seconds bridge at center. This inaccurate jewel count marking is the norm for earlier examples of the B.W. Raymond military "Master Navigation Watch" as these movements entered the production process intended for the civilian railroad watch market but were then repurposed by Elgin with the addition of the sweep-seconds feature to fill the pressing military demand, and it wasn't until somewhat later into their production that these military B.W. Raymond movements were produced with an accurate "22 Jewels" marking. CONDITION: Mvt: Running, good hacking function, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, few scattered micro-fine scratches, winding wheels and click with some oxide; dial with radium paint added atop all factory markings, otherwise nearly flawless; hands overpainted in radium paint to match dial; case shows very little wear, typical fine scratches and abrasions, rear contract markings remain fully legible; tight bow, crown shows little wear; good glass crystal. Estimate: $400 - $650 JH-77530
