APW - Ball Hamilton, Official RR Standard, Grade 998 Elinvar, 23J, 16S, gold-filled OF original Ball Official RR Standard stirrup bow case, Montgomery white enamel SS dial, SW-LS, fully capped lever escapement, mono-metallic balance with blued Elinvar hairspring, jeweled barrel arbor, bull's-eye pattern nickel damascene, s#B648750. The Grade 998 Elinvar had a total production of 2700 made and was produced between 1939 and 1942. CONDITION: Mvt: NR, likely broken balance staff, overhaul needed, fine cosmetic mvt condition overall, scattered fine to micro-fine scratches and some tiny nicks, ample oxide to larger winding wheel and scattered smaller spots elsewhere to steelwork; dial with numerous small nicks to upper-left portion, few scattered fine to micro-fine scratches, tiny edge flake under bezel at 9:30, few spots of bezel scrape to lower portion, very faint hand scrape; excellent seconds-hand with few small spots of oxide, fine-plus hour hand and minute hand with light oxide and some spots of finish loss; case shows medium wear, vertical crease type dent to rear, scattered tiny nicks and dings to band, substantially reduced engraving detail with areas of full loss, scattered rings and strips of wear to brass; somewhat brassy bow swings freely, crown shows ample wear; plastic crystal with scattered micro-fine scratches and few small nicks.
