APW - G.P. Reed, Boston, "Chrono-Mentor" with 31-day calendar, 15J, 16S (43.1mm dial diameter), 14K rose gold drum style OF recase, gold cuvette, case was originally also with a glazed mvt observation cover which is no longer present, white enamel DS impressed dial, SW-SS, lever escapement, nickel damascene, plates, gilt damascene barrel, mvt marked "Adjusted," s#350. Gross weight of assembled watch 70.8 dwt (110.2 g). A very rare watch, based on known examples it is believed that George P. Reed produced somewhere between 350 and 400 watches in total. Reed's production is notable among American horology for including a number of watches with interesting complications such as winding indicator display, spring detent escapements, and calendar watches. CONDITION: Mvt: Running, good calendar function as hands are set forward, as-made with no provision for advancing calendar other than setting of hands, winding mechanism with frequent skippage, setting mechanism requires a bit of excess upward pressure on crown while turning or will disengage, overhaul recommended for winding and setting issues, excellent-plus cosmetic mvt condition overall, lustrous plates with some typical scattered fine to micro-fine scratches; dial with hls including a cluster at left perimeter, few short fine scratches; fair minute hand with rust to tip and with mild bend, other hands excellent; case shows little wear, crease-type dent toward upper-right of rear, scattered soft dents elsewhere to rear, case was originally with a lever-set movement as evidenced by setting lever slot under bezel and also an empty hole in reverse of case pendant where a stem detent screw once resided; tight bow thinned at top, crown shows light wear; glass crystal with few short scratches Estimate: $7,000 - $10,000 JH-79966
