APW - Waltham, Appleton, Tracy & Co with vibrating hairspring stud, 15J, Model 1860, Civil War era, 16S, 18K gold original A.W.Co. HC, gold cuvette, bow with chain guards, white enamel SS dial, KWKS (key not included with this lot), gilt mvt, s#140108. Gross weight of assembled watch 74.7 dwt (116.1 g). The vibrating hairspring stud of this example is a scarce and notable feature that was intended to improve isochronal properties of the hairspring, and this feature is only found among a small fraction of the "American Watch Co." and "Appleton, Tracy & Co." grade production in Models 1860 and 1862. This movement is from a production run listed in factory records as having been completed between September, 1864 and February, 1865. CONDITION: Mvt: Running, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, few fine scratches, few surface spots, some mild ultra-fine scratch striations from past light wipings, winding escutcheon missing one screw; dial with short hl above seconds-register; excellent hour hand and seconds-hand, fair minute hand with oxide and finish loss; case shows medium wear, no dents, reduced engine turning detail with full loss through shoulders, rear hinge missing one end-cap, cuvette with profuse micro-fine scratches from past key slips; tight bow thinned at top, push shows ample wear and has metal splits and indentations to front and rear upper portion; good glass crystal. Estimate: $5,500 - $6,300 JH-79958
