APW - Waltham, Serial #B0000000, likely prototype with mvt "in the gray," Model 1892, 17J, 18S, HC model mvt in sidewinder orientation in gold-filled OF recase with floral and Masonic detail to rear, initials engraved inside rear, glazed mvt observation cover, white enamel DS dial with staggered marginal minute numerals with inner odd numbered chapter in red and outer even numbered chapter in negative white space against a series of radial acorn type shapes, marked "Pat. Mar. 26. 1901." above seconds-register, SW-SS, plates without finish, s#B0000000. A truly unusual item, with movement "in the gray" with unadorned plates, gold jewel settings having flat upper surfaces, and with no markings aside from "Safety Pinion" and the distinctly peculiar serial number. Interestingly, it's dial plate is serialized indicating that it was pulled from material in the course of production. Beyond its likely unique movement, the present watch also notably features a significantly rare and eye-catching marginal minute dial which was designed by Waltham Watch Co. President Ezra C. Fitch and was granted US Design Patent number 34261 on March 26th, 1901. CONDITION: Mvt: NR, case with broken stem but winding and setting not engaging when mvt was tested out of case, balance not swinging freely, overhaul needed, excellent-plus cosmetic mvt condition overall, few small scratches and surface nicks; dial with clusters of hls between 8 and 9:30, small edge chip at 9, hl at 10:30; nearly mint hands; case shows ample wear, no dents, substantially reduced engraving detail, only small bits of engine turning detail remain, some thin strips of wear to brass to high edges; tight bow, crown shows medium wear with ridge break; front glass crystal with scattered scratches, good mvt observation crystal. Estimate: $1,000 - $2,000 JH-80007
