WW - Longines WWII Luftwaffe pilot's watch, ref 22880, circa 1944, manual wind, 33mm x 42mm to lug tips, 15mm lug width, original stainless steel screw back case, brown leather strap, original black dial with radium painted luminous numerals, cal 12.68Z, case s#D215 mvt s#6804271, triple signed. This Longines "D" marked Luftwaffe wristwatch was produced to German military specifications during World War II. Commissioned by the German Ministry of Aviation (RLM) for Luftwaffe service, only approximately 500 examples were manufactured between 1943 and 1945. This reference is highly sought after by military watch collectors due to the wartime production. The movement serial number aligns with the production numbers for the "D" case back marking and the "215" engraved serial number on the back of the upper-left lug matches the "D215" serial number on the case back. CONDITION: Mvt: Running, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, fine scratches to plates near screws, light toning to steelwork; fine-plus dial with light surface spotting and a few light scratches, radium paint has darkened but matches the hands; fine-plus relumed hands show light wear and a few light scratches; polished case shows light wear, several light dings through case sides and bezel, a few deeper dings to the back of the upper-right lug, some scratches to the back of the lugs and case back from slipped tools, case back and lug engravings still very deep; crown shows light wear; good plastic crystal.
