EPW - Joseph Jans, Passau, quarter-hour repeater, 59mm, silver OF original pair cases pierced for sound transmission, outer with central scene of trees in the foreground and buildings and a walking figure in the background, inner case with image of an arch and trees at bottom, a tree and two small buildings at top, silver champlevé dial, KWKS (key not included with this lot), verge escapement, gilt mvt with pierced and foliate scrolled balance cock with small mask above center, no visible s#. CONDITION: Mvt: Running, good repeat function though plunge depresses stiffly and has some play as it depresses, good repeat tone for hour strikes, repeat tone frequently fully muffled for initial strike of first quarter-hour tones but typically strengthens with following quarter-hour strikes, fine-plus cosmetic mvt condition overall, some scattered scratches, some ultra-fine scratch striations from past wipings; dial with small open hole near edge above 2, otherwise excellent; excellent hands; outer case shows little wear, an attractive moderate patina, ding to left side of rear adjacent rivet of button latch, good engraving detail, button latch good, bezel leaving some gap to rear along upper and lower portions when closed; inner case shows very little wear, an attractive light patina, no dents, excellent engraving detail; bow pivots semi-freely; good domed glass crystal.
