EPW - Dreyssa, Elève de Breguet (student of Breguet), Rue de la Monnaie No. 19 a Paris, quarter-hour repeater, 54mm, 18K rose gold OF original case, signed gilt cuvette, engine turned silver dial, KWKS, cylinder escapement, gilt mvt, s#8319 within case. Gross weight of assembled watch 66.5 dwt (103.4 g). Materials tested via XRF analysis. An interesting piece, with a bit of search we have not uncovered any further information regarding Dreyssa aside from a simple mention in Loomes' "Watchmakers and Clockmakers of the World" of a "Dreyss" (presumably an alternate spelling, if not a misspelling) as active in Paris, circa 1812. Given the "Elève de Breguet" inscription though, we believe a deeper search by its next owner may well be worthwhile to better establish this individual's identity and potential association with Abraham Louis Breguet. CONDITION: Mvt: Running, good repeat function and tone aside from sluggishness and delay of progression to strikes of the third quarter-hour and occasional instances where pendant needs an upward nudge of assistance to complete this strike, overhaul recommended for this issue, fine-plus cosmetic mvt condition overall, scattered fine to micro-fine scratches, some scattered bits of oxide to steelwork with most notable being to steel balance cap, barrel stopworks elements are missing; dial with some typical scattered fine scratches and contact marks; fine hands; case shows ample wear, nick to edge of bezel near 2, scattered soft dings to rear, only light traces of engine turning detail remain, cuvette with profuse fine scratches from past slipped openings and key slips; tight bow; glass crystal with scratches. Estimate: $3,400 - $4,200 JH-80054
