APW - Aurora, mvt and dial marked for retailer F.J. Reemer of South Chicago, Illinois, Grade 109, 15J, 18S, gold-filled original Dueber HC with beautiful engraving detail including a seaside cabin scene to rear set against a mountainous landscape, front with a pair of nestled birds, original case paper inside rear, white enamel DS dial, SW-LS, nickel damascene, rose gilt mvt screws and regulator assembly, s#142463. A very attractive example of this scarce grade, in Greg Frauenhoff's terrific Aurora Watch Co. book the total production of hunting case version of the Grade 109 is estimated at 318 made. The present piece has interesting features of a "Fully Adjusted" marking to its movement and rose gilt screws and regulator assembly, this latter feature being seen more often among Grade 113 production but the present piece notably lacks the Breguet style hairspring typical of Grade 113 production. CONDITION: Mvt: Ticking very sluggishly with low amplitude on a full wind, overhaul needed, fine-plus cosmetic mvt condition overall, some toning of plates, some scattered fine to micro-fine scratches and small surface spots; dial with outer chapter hl at 11, extremely faint outer chapter hl at 1:30, few micro-fine scratches; nearly mint hands; case with broken or missing front lift spring so front must be lifted open, case shows little wear, no dents, good engraving detail, cuvette with perimeter scratches from slipped past openings; tight bow worn entirely to brass, crown shows little wear; good glass crystal. Estimate: $300 - $600 JH-80771
