APW - Elgin, Grade 162, 21J, 16S, gold-filled OF clamshell style swingout recase, white enamel DS dial, moon hands, SW-SS, fully capped lever escapement, three-finger bridge model mvt, decorative gold disk around balance jewel setting, ornate nickel damascene, s#6469904. An attractive high grade watch, although 4000 serial numbers were blocked by Elgin for Grade 162 production, per statistical analysis by Pocket Watch Database of known examples it is believed that total production of the Grade 162 was actually approximately 2650 made with approximately 1350 of the reserved serial numbers not completed. CONDITION: Mvt: Ticking sluggishly, pressure must be applied to crown when winding, overhaul needed, excellent-plus cosmetic mvt condition overall, ample micro-fines scratches to larger winding wheel and few elsewhere, scattered small spots of oxide to regulator and few small light patches to larger winding wheel; dial with hl at 7 and cluster of faint hls at 10, tiny flake to center-section rim at 3:30, few scattered small to tiny edge flakes under bezel; excellent-plus hour hand, excellent seconds, fine minute with ample oxide; case shows very little wear, cluster of small dings to left rear edge and scattered tiny dings and small nicks to band and elsewhere, some spots of marring to rear edge and bezel, scattered tiny spots of verdigris, excellent-plus engraving detail; tight bow, crown shows very light wear; glass crystal with short fine scratch at 2.
