APW - Elgin, Veritas, Grade 274, 21J, 18S, gold-filled HC recase, white enamel DS dial, SW-LS, fully capped lever escapement, ornate nickel damascene, s#9625537. A scarce high grade watch, the total production of the Grade 274 was 4000 made but from Elgin factory records it is believed that only 1373 of these carried the Veritas marking, and these were the only Veritas marked hunting case watches which Elgin produced. CONDITION: Mvt: Running, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, bright lustrous plates, scattered short fine to micro-fine scratches and some tiny nicks, medium oxide to steelwork; visible portion of dial with hl at 1:30, short hl to center section rim at 12:30, few scattered short micro-fine scratches; fine hands with ample oxide; case shows medium wear, scattered mild dents to rear and few elsewhere, upper front and rear with bow indents, scattered small to tiny nicks to band and few elsewhere, strips and areas of wear to brass to band and thin sliver to rear lip; tight bow is mildly thinned at top; crown shows light wear; glass crystal with short micro-fine scratch at 6 and small edge flake at 1:30.
