APW - Illinois, "The Railroader" marked mvt, Bunn grade, 17J, 18S, gold-filled HC recase, white enamel DS dial, SW-LS, two-tone gilt and nickel checkerboard pattern damascene, gilt mvt screws and regulator assembly, s#1204502. A rare and interesting railroad associated private label marking, we have seen "The Railroader" signed 18 size Illinois movements in three separate grades - 15 jewel Grade 64, 17 jewel Bunn grade, and 21 jewel Bunn Special grade. Interestingly the 15 jewel version examples we have seen have a matched dial signature, while the very few 17 and 21 jewel version we have encountered have had "Illinois Watch Co." factory-signed dials. CONDITION: Mvt: Ticking very sluggishly with low amplitude on a full wind, overhaul needed, fine-plus cosmetic mvt condition overall, main plate with good 2-tone color and barrel bridge with reduced two-tone color, some scattered surface spots with the most notable at perimeter of barrel bridge below "r" in "Spingfield," some scattered micro-fine scratches and few pinpoint surface nicks, some screw heads with varying degrees of finish loss, one case screw is a mismatched replacement; dial with hls below seconds-register at 5:30 and 6, few short fine scratches; fine hands, minute with mild bend and with oxide to tip, minute with some rust to its center hub; case shows ample wear, dent to band between 6 and 7, substantially reduced engine turning and engraving detail, areas of wear to brass, case front opens wide of 90 degrees (to approximately 110 degrees); tight bow worn entirely to brass, crown shows medium wear; glass crystal with mark of internal rub from hands at center. Estimate: $300 - $500 JH-80766
