EPW - International Watch Co (IWC), Swiss, Jones Caliber "R" grade, 55mm, heavy silver original A.A.J. & Co. HC with attractive foliate engraving detail, gold-capped thumb catch and pendant accents, gold hinges, silver cuvette, glazed mvt observation cover, white enamel SS dial, SW-SS, lever escapement with counterpoise, 15J, nickel damascene, s#11712. Gross weight of assembled watch 103.1 dwt (160.2 g). A lovely example of this historically interesting early IWC product, dating to the 1870s and named after founder Florentine Ariosto Jones, an American emigrant to Switzerland who aimed to utilize American machine production techniques in his watchmaking factory in Switzerland. CONDITION: Mvt: Running, fine-plus cosmetic mvt condition overall, scratch to balance cock, scattered fine to micro-fine scratches and some surface spots elsewhere, shims inserted underneath case screws indicating likely loss of metal to case rim at these positions; visible portion of dial with crudely filled edge chipping between 4:30 and 5, hl near 5; excellent hour hand and minute hand, fine seconds-hand with areas of oxide and finish loss; case shows very light wear, light overall patina aside from a darker area to rear where it appears a sticker once resided, scattered fine scratches and small nicks, no dents, good engraving detail; tight bow, crown shows light wear; good glass crystals.
