Penney of Springfield, MA, 16S, gold-filled OF recase, white enamel DS dial, SW-SS, fully capped lever escapement, wavy pattern nickel damascene, s#175244. A rare high grade watch, the total production of the 21 jewel open face pendant-set version of the Hayden W. Wheeler is believed to be only 250 made. CONDITION: Mvt: NR, likely broken mainspring, balance will tick with some pressure held at center wheel, fine-plus cosmetic mvt condition overall, fine-plus cosmetic mvt condition overall, bright lustrous surfaces, plates with scattered fine to micro-fine scratches, marring tight around position of stem detent screw, regulator spring with some oxide and winding wheels with scattered bits of oxide, balance jewel setting is a brass replacement and is rotated out of proper orientation; dial with scattered hls, few small surface nicks; excellent blued hour and minute hands, fine seconds-hand is plum colored and has oxide; case shows ample wear, few dings, no engine turning detail remains, wear to brass to much of band, bezel, and throughout rear shoulder; bow pivots freely, crown shows medium wear; good glass crystal.
