APW - Illinois, Paillard Non-Magnetic Watch Co, 24J, 18S, gold-filled OF recase with attractive engraving detail, white enamel DS dial, SW-LS, fully capped lever escapement, capped third wheel, jeweled barrel arbor, non-magnetic alloy balance and hairspring, bright spotted pattern nickel damascene with gilt inlay strip to portion of signature, s#1400209. A good example of this rare top grade private label. Exact production numbers are unknown, but only a very small fraction of 24 jewel Bunn Special production was non-magnetic equipped and marked for Paillard. CONDITION: Mvt: Running, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, some mild toning of barrel bridge and balance cock, scratch between lower case screw and third wheel jewel setting, small surface spot and few mild abrasions to barrel bridge, one case screw is a mismatched replacement with smaller head; dial with small bits of material at the junction of its segments indicating it has likely been re-secured, dial with hl below seconds-register at 6, hl above seconds-register, darker spot near 5; fine hands, minute with finish loss and oxide to its tip; case shows little wear, no dents, excellent engraving detail, inner surface of case rear is largely through to brass; brassy bow pivots semi-freely, crown shows light wear; glass crystal with fine scratches.
