APW - Illinois, Washington Watch Co, Lafayette, 24J, 18S, gold-filled OF original swingout case with attractive floral engraving detail, white enamel DS dial, SW-LS, fully capped lever escapement, capped third wheel, jeweled barrel arbor, mvt marked "Double Roller," nickel damascene, s#3312761. A scarce top grade private label, the total production of this Bunn Special grade 24 jewel open face Lafayette is believed to be only approximately 720 made. This example is also interesting for its unusual text of adjustment marking reading "Adjusted To Temperature and Positions Six" with the "Six" seemingly being an afterthought and printed below on its own line - this is only the fourth example of this unusual marking this cataloguer recalls having seen. CONDITION: Mvt: Ticking sluggishly after some prodding to start, overhaul needed, nearly mint cosmetic mvt condition overall, few micro-fine scratches, some toning of plates; dial with light outer chapter hl at 4, small edge flake under bezel at 11; fine hands with some areas of oxide and finish loss; case shows light wear, no dents, good engraving detail, some areas of wear to brass to pendant; tight somewhat brassy bow, crown shows medium wear; good glass crystal.
