APW - Illinois, "B. & O. R.R. Special" (Baltimore & Ohio Railroad Special) marked mvt, Bunn Special grade, 21J, 18S, nickel OF display case with "Illinois Watch Co. Springfield" marked bezels, white enamel DS Gothic numeral dial, SW-LS, fully capped lever escapement, two-tone gilt and nickel damascene, s#1429139. A rare and desirable railroad marked movement, though based on other examples we have seen we suspect this watch likely originally would have been paired with a dial marked for Baltimore and Ohio Railroad watch inspector W.L. Jones of Martinsburg, West Virginia. The Baltimore and Ohio Railroad, which opened in 1830, was the first common carrier railroad and the oldest railroad in the United States. CONDITION: Mvt: Running, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, good two tone color, some scattered tiny cloudy spots, few small to tiny nicks and short scratches near case screw above balance bridge, very short few micro-fine scratches elsewhere, light to medium oxide to regulator and some scattered smaller spots elsewhere to steelwork; dial with many scattered hls and some fine to micro-fine scratches, flake with associated fracture at 12, light edge wear under bezel; fine hands with finish loss and oxide; case shows little wear, some scattered small to tiny nicks, excellent bezel marking detail, light cloudy toning; tight bow, crown shows little wear; good glass crystals, lower right rear with some clusters of tiny nicks. Estimate: $600 - $1,200 JH-80870
