APW - Waltham, Waltham Watch Co. grade, Model 1857, 15J, 11K gold drum style original J&M HC with misleading crowned "18" marking, small seaside scene to front, floral detail to rear, gold cuvette, white enamel SS dial, KWKS (key not included with this lot), nickel damascene, s#823931. Materials tested by XRF analysis. Gross weight of assembled watch 77.2 dwt (120.1 g). A rare watch in this nickel damascene version, the Waltham Watch Co. signed Model 1857 is quite common in gilt finish but challenging to find in nickel damascene. CONDITION: Mvt: NR, fully wound, balance is gummy, overhaul needed, fine-plus cosmetic mvt condition overall, hazy whitish toning of plates, scattered fine to micro-fine scratches; dial nearly flawless in visible portion with few micro-fine scratches; excellent hands; case rear planchet is detaching with thin sliver of separation to about half of its circumference ranging from lower-right to upper-left, case front lift spring needs assistance to open lid, case shows ample wear, few small nicks, reduced engraving detail, engine turning detail is largely fully lost with remaining portions being quite light, cuvette with perimeter scratches from slipped past openings and with profuse fine scratches to central portion from past key slips; tight replacement bow of differing tone, push shows ample wear and has metal loss to upper portion of front and rear; good glass crystal.
