APW - U.S. Watch Co of Waltham, The President, 17J, 18S, gold-plated OF recase, "The President" marked white enamel DS dial, SW-LS, two-tone gilt and nickel damascene, s#150552. A scarce watch, "The President" was the U.S. Watch Co.'s finest grade and based on known examples appears to have been made in a single production run of 1000 pieces spanning serial numbers 150001 to 151000; with the first 200 watches of the run being hunting case model and the final 800 watches of the run being open face model. CONDITION: Mvt: Ticking erratically with substantial error in flat of motion, balance amplitude slowing down almost to a stop in dial-up position, and with notable excess escapement noise in several positions, overhaul needed, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, two-tone color excellent in most areas though with some reduction at barrel bridge perimeter where some abrasions are present and reduce gilt tone, scattered fine to micro-fine scratches; nearly flawless dial with few micro-fine scratches; excellent hands; case shows medium wear, scattered dings, engraving detail with mild reduction, substantial wear to brass throughout; tight brassy bow, crown shows medium wear; thick glass crystal with fine scratch at center.
