EPW - Boisson, London, mvt likely of Continental manufacture, 57mm, gilt tombac alloy OF pair cases, outer with repoussé religious detail that we believe depicts Joseph, his wife Mary and infant son Jesus with an angel overseeing this trio, this scene representing their flight to Egypt in response to Herod's order to kill the infants in Palestine, perimeter of case rear with four additional busts representing the apostles Matthew, Mark, Luke and John who wrote the four canonical gospels, outer case with garnet inset to button latch, later replacement white enamel dial, KWKS (key not included with this lot), verge escapement, gilt mvt with pierced and foliate scrolled two-footed balance bridge, no visible s#. According to data from the Société Genevoise de Généalogie, watchmaker Etienne Boisson was born in 1682, and died September 11, 1744 in Geneva. Both Britten and Loomes follow Baillie's listing of "Boisson, London" as circa 1700, but the date would appear to be too early or perhaps a date of apprenticeship. The casing of the present watch would be more consistent with attribution to the period of 1730 to 1750. CONDITION: Mvt: Running, fine-plus cosmetic mvt condition overall, main plate with scattered abrasions and scratches, regulation disk with some finish loss; replacement dial with edge flake at 2:30, few fine scratches and small surface nicks; fine hands; outer case shows medium wear, reduced engraving detail with full loss of finer details, button latch good though upper portion of case leaving gap when closed; inner case shows light wear, moderate circumferential indentation of perimeter, numerous scattered dings and mild dents; bow pivots freely; domed glass bull's-eye crystal cloudy with profuse scratches and abrasions. Estimate: $500 - $900 JH-80970
